Mothers need others ❤️‍🔥 years ago @modernmidwivesjax and @loveandlightdoula teamed up to create our free pregnancy and postpartum support groups in hopes to create a unique community that met women as they are and changed the way support looked in motherhood. We believe that pregnancy and postpartum care go far beyond just check ins, but rather a more intentional approach that nurtures our mothers on a deeper level. Our vision was to build a space where women could feel seen, heard, and supported through every step of their journey. Today, we’re proud to continue this mission, offering a place of connection, empowerment, and love for all mothers.

We are switching it up this week for group🌞Since we have been blessed w the warmth of the sun this week, we are taking our group outside and kickin it up a notch! This weeks group is also going to be open to BOTH pregnant mamas and postpartum mamas as we gather to listen to an empowering birth story by my girl @gina_ri_, followed by a pot luck and community in the sunshine! No need to be a client of @loveandlightdoula or @modernmidwivesjax we just want to create community and hold space for women in all season of motherhood. We will have a wide open space at Howell Park for us to gather, snack, and support one another. Simply bring a food item (big or small, totally up to you!) and anything else you might need to be comfortable. We can’t wait for this fun group! It’s going to be a beautiful day.

2025 is off to a great start with updated contracts, new offers, increased prices, but the same ole lil hearts in the game. @courtlayy and I got to sit down (between baby storms, holidays, kids and life this was hard!!!) and go over our year in 2024 and plan out better ways to better serve all of you in 2025!

Happy 2025 🤍🤍🤍 we are so excited to see what this year will hold. We have tons of fun things planned for the next few months.

First of all! New year, new space ✨ starting in 2025 and going forward, our free pregnancy and postpartum support groups will take place in our Modern Midwives office in Jax Beach. We had to make a shift, but thankfully our office is located behind the Enchanted Cottage where groups have been held the past several months. You’ll just follow the wooden path to the back of the building and you will find us.

Also, we will be having a guest speaker with us this week! Rachel with @hugsandsnugs_jax will be talking to us about all things breastfeeding, oral motor function, pumping, and everything in between. You guys are going to love everything Rachel has to offer. This is for pregnancy group but any new mamas who have curiosity about this, please join! All are welcome.

Next we have our free monthly offering and this month we will be a family nature walk at Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve🌳Step into nature with our midwives and fellow community members for a walk of connection, conversation, and support. Together, we’ll nurture both body and spirit in the heart of the outdoors🌿

Lastly, our birth story this month is with @gina_ri_ about her redemptive and restorative homebirth. This third time mama worked so hard to get her dream birth and the story will leave you feeling motivated!

What a year 🎆 2024 was a year full of growth in so many ways! I am very proud of the way my business has been blossoming. I’ve been able to maintain a low cap each month to allow for the best possible return to my clients, while @courtlayy has been a rockstar with all these placentas! We somehow have found this balance that has allowed for us to show up for families in a intentional and consistent way. We have SO much gratitude every year as we reflect on all the families we had the honor of serving. Cheers to 2025!

1 year ago today I got to watch one of my friends labor like a rockstar! Everytime I see these photos from this birth, all I can think is “birth is tough, but women are tougher”. Wild how every year on the birthday of a baby and mama, all the memories flood back from the work of what brought the baby earthside.

In a room like this, can you see how you could tune into your body and focus on yourself and your baby? When mammals go into labor in the wild, they typically seclude themselves. They find a cozy nook with dim lighting and no distractions. This is what is the ideal birthing space for humans looks like too. Setting the mood for your birth space can make you feel safe, which will allow you feel more in control of you and your baby’s birth experience. Birth is a beautiful experience, so make your environment beautiful and watch the rest unfold.

Hello october!!! Don’t know where the time has been going lately but man it is flyingggg by. September was great and now October will bring us so many new things to look forward to. Due to popular request, we will be repeating a few of our topics and we will also be having a fun birth story! You guys asked where she was last Friday so she’ll be back at next group to share her story!! @hopelizabethread We are excited to share Fridays with you this month 🤎

Why does finding the right team for you matter for a positive birth experience? Your birth team plays a huge role in shaping your birth journey and influences the overall experience. Here’s what your birth team bring to the table:

Building trust with your team and having them fully trust in you and the autonomous process of birth is key 🔑

The 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month are special for us 🤍 our growing group has been filled with connection, honoring each individual journey, and supporting one another through highs and lows as bereaved parents.

Last night our group topic was honoring our babies. Melissa helped our group set an intentional space to do this. We each lit a candle in remembrance of each baby—said by name. Our group encourages families to share only what they want and when they want. Last night we intentionally shared items, pictures, stories and more about our babies. We want families to know their babies and experiences are important and should always have a space to be shared and honored. We closed group last night by writing a letter to our future selves to open on a day we foresee being difficult as bereaved parents.

We work hard to create an intentional and confidential group to allow for vulnerable sharing and connection. You are always welcome here. 🩶

While there are many options out there for what to do with your placenta, the choice is yours! We have a variety of options we offer from capsules, to salves, to tinctures. But other options include planting it, using it for art, or chopping up to freeze and have on hand. Here, @courtlayy is making bite sized pieces that will go into the freezer and be available for mom to consume raw, in smoothies, or however she sees fit. Ultimately, it’s your organ and you have every right to decide what to do with it. We just are here to inform you and assist in the process 🤍

Hello September! We have so much to offer this month. We will be having such a powerful birth story this month from a fellow birth worker in our community @groundedperinatal so mark your calendars pregnant mamas! Her story of the birth of her first born son will have you amazed.
We will also be having a fun guest speaker this month for our postpartum mamas! We will have Certified Pilates Instructor @holistichealthhannah come share some fun things with our group at the end of this month, so make sure you let us know if you will be attending so we can accommodate for all of you.
We moved our group from 10-10:30 to accommodate the @enchantedcottagejax circle time as we want to make sure we give them the space they need for their rhythm.
Going forward, it will be helpful if you guys can send us a message to confirm you will be joining us for group so we can make sure we have a proper plan set in stone. We know things come up but if you guys could reach out to me, it would help our flow so much!
As always, we appreciate all of you in our community that keep us coming back week after week. We are so thankful for all of you!

Oh how proud I am of this community ✨ last week we talked about feeling touched out, how to regulate ourselves, and left group with new ideas on how to cope with the never ending to do list mothers have. There were lots of laugh, a few tears, and of course so much fun was had. Our topics get better and better each time.

August is here and we are ready for you guys 🤍 we know with summer coming to an end, some people might be having changes to their schedules. We hope to continue to see all of you amazing families. By popular request we have @ksbirth birth story coming up which you won’t want to miss! We also officially will be hosting our loss group biweekly going forward which fills our hearts so much and hope it feels the same for you. I can’t explain how happy it makes me offering such a variety of support to you all now. Hopefully we don’t stop here and this is just the beginning!

Counter pressure can be a powerful tool in labor 💥
During a contraction, the uterus is working incredibly hard to bring baby down and out. Along with the uterus there are tons of ligaments and fascia that also are apart of the process. Counter pressure is applied to the bony structure of the pelvis and release tension in the ligaments and fascia. This decrease in tension relieves some of the intensity from a contraction. The best part is that sometimes a light touch is all that is needed! Just like how Gail Tully teaches us with the standing sacral release in @spinningbabies 🤌🏽

Just a couple of silly gooses trying to make a difference in our community 🫡 Melissa and I had a GREAT first loss group earlier this week and we are excited to share that we will now be hosting this group biweekly! The women have asked, and we shall provide. What an honor it is to be present with these families and create new communities. Excited to see what the future holds!

Caught some special movement on camera during a prenatal appointment with my client. CST is included in my doula package! It’s a great way to regulate your nervous system, unwind fascia to create optimal space for your growing baby, and connect to your body and baby. I always get to watch baby move around while doing cst on mamas, it’s the sweetest thing to see!
